Georgian wine ranks as fourth top exported product in January 2021

With $8.5 million Georgian wine was the fourth top exported product in January 2021, which in a meantime, became the second, by the largest decline in value, Trend reports the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

As reported, some 2,809 tons of wine, worth $8,5 million, 100 have been exported to 25 countries from Georgia during January 2021, down from 4,602.5 tons, or $14.67 million from January 2020.

With $5.68 million, or 1,890 tons, Russia was the top destination of Georgian winemakers. Albeit, the value of export has seen a significant decline this year in comparison with January 2020 when Georgia exported 3,258.1 tons of wine, worth $9.77 million to Russia.

Export to Ukraine amounted to $845,500, or 319.8 tons in the first month of 2021, also down from $1.15 million, or 394 tons, as compared with January 2020. Poland was the third top importer of Georgian wine, with $825,200, or 273.2 tons, which contrary to Russia and Ukraine, has shown growth compared with the reporting period of the last year: $778,400, or 252.2 tons.

Georgian wine export to China has declined more than twice, which was the fourth top importer of Georgian wine in January 2020. Only 69.3 tons of wine, worth $248,800 has been exported this year to China, down from $676,300 or 186.9 tons.

The exports of Georgia (excluding non-declared exports) in January 2021 equaled $224.4 million, 16.2 percent lower year-on-year. Share of the domestic exports in total export constituted 74.1 percent and amounted to $166.4 million, 6.4 percent lower to January 2020.
