Iran and India intend to increase trade relations

Iran and India are interested in developing trade relations between the two countries and increasing transit, Trend reports citing Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran.

In this regard, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Minister of External Affairs of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar met in Tajikistan on the sidelines of the "Heart of Asia" conference.

During the meeting, the final situation of the economic cooperation between the two countries was discussed.

The meeting also stressed the importance of cooperation between the countries of the region, including India and Iran, in strengthening peace and stability in Afghanistan.

According to the statistics of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI), the trade turnover between Iran and India amounted to 8.8 million tons worth $3.1 billion during the first 11 months of last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through February 18, 2021).

The trade turnover decreased by 35 percent compared to the preceding period.

So, Iran exported 6.72 million tons of goods worth $1.1 billion to India and imported 2 million tons of goods worth $1.98 billion from India within the 11 months.
