BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 31

Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

In March, 130,645 citizens who have been unemployed due to the coronavirus pandemic in Georgia will receive cash assistance for 200 lari ($60), said the State Agency for the Promotion of Employment, Trend reports via Georgian media.

In Georgia, unemployment compensation for March began to be credited, including to those who lost their jobs due to restrictions imposed in the country during the second wave of COVID-19. The amount of funds allocated for this is 26.2 million lari (about $8 million).

To date, assistance for 200 lari in February has been credited to 139,618 citizens in the amount of 27.9 million lari ($8.2 million). As of January, compensation was transferred to 106,362 persons who lost income, in the amount of 21.3 million lari ($6.3 million).

As part of the anti-crisis economic plan of the Georgian government, from January 2021, hired workers who have been left without income receive monthly assistance in the amount of 200 lari for six months.

Compensation is due to officially employed or on maternity leave if they worked for at least two months in 2020 and received a salary that is confirmed by the employer's tax return, and during the period of restrictions from November 2020 to February 2021 were left without official income for one or more months.

Compensation will be stopped if, after March 2021, the recipient receives a salary of at least 10 lari ($2.96).

This is the second stage in the issuance of aid to citizens who were left without work during the pandemic. At the first stage, more than 117,800 citizens received unemployment benefits.
