Iran imported 23.1 million tons of essential products worth more than $12 billion in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), Spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing the administration’s website.
According to Latifi, Iran imported 9.78 million tons of corn worth about $2.5 billion, 1.82 million tons of compressed soybeans worth $794 million, and 1.83 million tons of barley worth $457 million last Iranian year.
Latifi added that moreover, 2.34 million tons of oilseeds worth about $1.25 billion and 1.18 million tons of edible oils worth $1.06 billion were imported to Iran last Iranian year.
The official noted that at the same time, about 14,800 tons of medicines, medical supplies and equipment worth $1.64 billion were imported in the last Iranian year.
“In addition, Iran imported 3 million tons of wheat worth $841 million, 936,000 tons of rice worth $868 million, 1.01 million tons of sugar worth $370 million, 64,800 tons of dry tea worth $329 million, 30,500 tons of frozen red meat worth $133 million, 175,000 tons of legumes worth $144 million, 4,420 tons of red meat worth $29.2 million and 9,800 tons of butter worth $51.4 million last Iranian year,” he said.
Latifi stressed that furthermore, 53,400 tons of equipment producing essential products worth $511 million, 231,000 tons of paper pulp worth $181 million, 207,000 tons of paper worth $190 million, 252,000 tons of chemical fertilizers worth $153 million, 9,000 tons of toxic chemicals worth $86.2 million were imported to Iran in the last Iranian year.
The spokesman said that Iran also imported 76,700 tons of truck tires worth $282 million in the last Iranian year.
Reportedly, Iran's total foreign trade turnover amounted to about 146 million tons worth $73 billion in the last Iranian year. During this period, Iran exported 112 million tons of goods worth $34.5 billion and imported 33.4 million tons worth $38.4 billion.
