By Elnur Baghsihov – Trend:

A total of 120 trillion rials (about $2.85 billion) worth of investments have been made in Iran's free trade zones during the current government of Iran (which has been in power since 2013), Adviser to the Iranian President and Secretary of the Supreme Council of Free Trade Zones of Iran Hamidreza Momeni told journalists, Trend reports citing Tasnim news agency.

The secretary noted that about 98 percent of these investments belong to the private sector, and have been made in eight free trade zones in Iran.

Momeni added that 512,000 people are currently employed in Iran's free trade zones.

"It is possible to increase the role of free trade zones in Iran's macroeconomic activities by reducing bureaucracy in institutions and ensuring transparency in the implementation of a number of steps," he said.

The adviser stressed that in order for investors to create industrial and economic activities, their problems must be solved in a minimum of time.
