According to Sarvi Zargar, 275 tons of silk thread will be produced from this volume of the raw silk cocoon.

The official added that the self-sufficiency ratio on the production of carpets and silk products domestically will increase to 55 percent as a result of the silk thread production in Iran in the autumn.

Sarvi Zargar emphasized that about 1,680 tons of raw silk cocoon were produced in Iran over the last Iranian year (March 20, 2020 - March 20, 2021). Thus, the self-sufficiency ratio on the production of carpets and silk products domestically has increased from 28 percent to 48 percent.

The head noted that Iran's silk thread imports also fell by 73 percent during the last Iranian year.

According to him, each silkworm egg is supplied to the farmer for 150,000 rials (about $3.57).
