Iran presents data on various plants to be sown in current year

A number of plants, including, soybean, sesame, sunflower and safflower are planned to be planted on more than 155,000 hectares of land in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), an official of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran Gholamhossein Khedraei said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

The official noted that it is planned to plant soybean on more than 50,000 hectares of land in Iran during the current Iranian year. Soybean is mainly grown in Golestan, Mazandaran and Ardabil provinces of Iran.

“Also, soybean is expected to be grown in Khuzestan and Ilam provinces in this year. So, 1 kg of soybean seeds will be purchased from farmers for 124,000 rials (about $2.95) in the current Iranian year. Last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 21, 2021), 1 kg of soybean was purchased for 66,000 rials (about $1.57),” he added.

In addition, sesame is estimated to be planted on 80,000 hectares of land in Iran within the current Iranian year, and this plant will be planted in 7-8 provinces of Iran. As the price of 1 kg of sesame is more than 300,000 rials (about $ 7.14) above the market, this product will be purchased from farmers by agreement, according to the Khedraei.

The official said that Iran is planned to plant sunflower on 20,000 hectares of land in the current Iranian year. So far, sunflowers have been planted on 4,500 hectares of land.

“At the same time, safflower is to be planted on about 5,000 hectares of land in Iran this year. While in the next year, the plant will be planted on 25,000 hectares of land,” he said.
