Agricultural lands in Iran to be equipped with modern irrigation systems

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 8

It is forecasted that 100,000 hectares of agricultural land in Iran will be equipped with modern irrigation systems in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), an official of Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran Fariborz Abbasi said, Trend reports citing the Ministry.

According to Abbasi, 30-35 percent of the lands to be equipped with modern irrigation systems will be in gardens and the rest in cropping lands. It was decided to provide 24 trillion rials (about $571 million) in non-repayable loans to equip areas with modern irrigation systems. However, it is necessary to wait for how much money will be provided in the end.

The official added that because, it was decided to issue loans worth 8 trillion rials (about $190 million) over the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), but only 50 percent of this amount was provided.

"Since the beginning of the current Iranian year, 25,000-30,000 hectares of land have been equipped with modern irrigation systems. While in general, 2.52 million hectares of land in Iran have been equipped with modern irrigation systems," he said.
