BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 21
Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Georgia and the United Arab Emirates will begin negotiations on a free trade agreement, said Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Natia Turnava, who is on a working visit to the UAE, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Economy of Georgia.
“Georgia will be one of the first countries in the region to start negotiations on a free trade agreement with the United Arab Emirates. Free trade will greatly benefit both sides,” Turnava said after meeting at the UAE Ministry of Economy.
According to her, the UAE annually increases imports of Georgia's agro-industrial products, and the free trade agreement will allow even more Georgian products to appear on the UAE markets.
Georgia already has free trade agreements with the EU, the countries of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), Turkey, Hong Kong and China.
Free trade negotiations are already underway with Serbia, and it is planned to start them with India as well. The text of the agreement has already been prepared, and negotiation groups have also been set up on both sides, which are currently awaiting a date for the first round of negotiations.
The possibility of signing such agreements with Japan, the United States and South Korea is being actively discussed.
