The number of bank cards issued in Turkmenistan as of August 1, 2021 amounted to 4.66 million, which is 0.6 percent more compared to July (4.63 million) and 4.6 percent more compared to January (4.4 million), Trend reports with reference to the data of the Central Bank of Turkmenistan.
According to bank, the largest number of cards was issued in the capital of the country - the city of Ashgabat (1.6 million cards). It is followed by Mary (823,800 cards) and Lebap regions (745,300 cards).
It is reported that the bank that issued the largest number of cards was the Daykhanbank State Commercial Bank - 1.7 million cards were issued by the bank as of August 1.
The second and third places were taken by the State Commercial Bank of Turkmenistan (913,500 cards) and the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan (534,600 cards).
Over the past four years, the number of cards issued in Turkmenistan has almost quadrupled. Thus, if as of January 1, 2017, 1.7 million cards were used in Turkmenistan, then as of January 2021 this number increased to 4.4 million.
