Azerbaijan sees growth in retail trade turnover for 9M2021

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 11

Azerbaijan’s 9M2021 retail trade turnover increased by 2.8 percent compared to the same period last year and reached 30.4 billion manats ($17.9 billion), Trend reports citing the Central Bank's monetary policy report.

According to the information, mitigation of quarantine measures in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, a rapid increase in the number of vaccinated population, permission to hold mass events are the main factors that contributed to the recovery in consumer demand.

It is reported that the retail turnover of food products, beverages and tobacco products increased by 2.4 percent, and the turnover of non-food products - by 3.3 percent.

According to the State Customs Committee, Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover in the specified period amounted to $23 billion, of which $14.6 billion, or 63.5 percent, accounted for exports, and $8.3 billion, or 36.5 percent, for imports.

At the same time, the foreign trade balance amounted to $6.3 billion, which is 2.3 times more than in 9M2020.
