Iran shares value of shrimp exports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 24

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Iran has exported $150 million worth of shrimp since the beginning of the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021), an official of Iran Fisheries Organization Morteza Afrasiabi said, Trend reports citing Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

According to him, a total of 57,800 tons of shrimp have been grown on 14,000 hectares for the reporting period, of which about 75-80 percent has been exported.

Afrasiabi added that the shrimp has been exported to Turkey, Iraq, the UAE, China, Spain and France.

“Among the mentioned countries, China accounts for main part of Iran’s shrimp exports. Iran has a great potential for growing shrimp. Once Iran's problems with a number of health standards are resolved, Iran's shrimp exports to China will increase,” the official noted.

This will result in increased interest in growing shrimp in Iran, Afrasiabi said.
