Nearly 5M tons of cargo loaded/unloaded at Iran's Imam Khomeini port

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 14. As many as 4.73 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Iran’s Imam Khomeini port in Khuzestan Province (south-western Iran), since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023) to May 10, Director General of Ports and Maritime Department in Khuzestan Province, Behrouz Aghaei told reporters, Trend reports citing IRNA.

The director general noted that loading and unloading operations at Imam Khomeini port for the reporting period were carried out by 164 ships.

Aghaei added that about 1.4 million tons of essential products, about 260,000 tons of crude oil and petroleum products, 923,000 tons of mining and chemical products, more than 383,000 tons of general cargo, about 1.64 million tons of petrochemical products were loaded and unloaded at the port within the mentioned period.

"In addition, 10,300 units of TEU containers were loaded and unloaded at Iran’s Imam Khomeini port since the beginning of the current Iranian year," he said.

According to the official, 1.09 million tons of essential products were shipped from Imam Khomeini port to various provinces of the country.

"On average, 60,000 tons of cargo are currently being unloaded from ships in this port per day," Aghaei also pointed out.

Iran's Imam Khomeini Port is located on an area of 11,000 hectares. The port has capacity receive 60 million tons of cargo per year.

In total, 11.9 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in Iranian ports in the 1st month of the current Iranian year. Of this, 5.22 million tons were loaded and 6.68 million tons were unloaded. This is a decrease of 0.7 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year.
