(www.autoinsidernews.com) вЂ" Volvo is reportedly considering a new flagship vehicle, according to a report in Autocar magazine. But don't expect Volvo's new flagship to be a sedan larger than the new S80. Instead, Volvo says a wagon or crossover is likely to be the brand's new flagship model.

Lex Kerssemakers, Volvo Car senior vice president of brand business and product strategy, said that Volvo views making another five-meter car as irresponsible and a large luxury vehicle capable of transporting several people and luggage would better fit Volvo's image, reports Trend.

This new statement backs up Kerssemakers' recent comments that any Volvo product expansion would likely consist of crossovers and wagons. If we were to further expand our model range, likely it would be in the V or XC range, he said two weeks ago.

Kerssemakers comment that a taller vehicle would allow Volvo to maximize passenger capacity, while minimizing the vehicle's road footprint, leads some to believe one of Volvo's next vehicles may be a rival for the Mercedes R-Class. Kerssemakers has also said that he would like to build a vehicle based on the VCC concept.
