Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr I. Khalilova / The Azerbaijani State Standardization, Metrology and Patent Agency is still continuing with the suspension of five or six wine plants in Azerbaijan, the Chairman of the State Agency , Ramiz Hasanov, reported. The State Agency imposed a ban on the production of wine in 2006 due to its non-compliance to quality standards. The ban has recently been lifted from the Ganja wine plant and one of the Baku wine plants.

"Other enterprises did not reach quality standards due to lack of grapes. As a result, the plants were producing wine products by adding powder. When we impose a ban on production it also refers to the sale of the products of these enterprises. Part of the products were re-processed and others were wiped out," Hasanov said.

The total damage to the wine enterprises exceeds AZN 100,000. Meanwhile, wine producers have already purchased large territories for growing of grapes, which will allow for an increase in the quality of Azerbaijani wines.
