SOCAR sign contract to develop corporate database

The Information Technology Management of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic and the British company Fugro signed a contract to develop a corporate database of geological, geophysical and oil-field data, SOCAR reported. Earlier Fugro won the tender announced by SOCAR.

The contract was undersigned by Information Technology Management Head Inayat Huseynov and Chairman of the Board "Fugro Data Solutions" Simon Kendall.

Earlier the company announced a tender. The tender included proposals on establishment of the special database, which means accumulation and storage of geological and production data, installation of necessary software for deployment and management, and its connection to the system, organization of trainings for employees of SOCAR, establishment of a pilot database and software service support.

The source said the winning company will introduce the base for three years, and later, it will act as a consultant on the introduction of a new database, implement innovate and upgraded programs. "This is a long process that requires a lot of time.

Cooperative database of geological and oilfield data of the SOCAR (State oil company of Azerbaijan) will be created three phases over three years. The first phase covers the creation of databases, its downloading and the necessary training for SOCAR's staff. In the second phase employees of SOCAR will be engaged in loading data into the database under the leadership of the company, which will deal with its creation. In the third phase, the company's workers will have to work independently, but with the support of the company, which created the base.

The database will store all the geological and geophysical data on squares, data on drilling and stock assessments. It will include everything that is related to the oil and gas sector. Some economic indicators relating to oil and gas sphere also may be included in the database in future. Foreign companies may also store their data in these databases. The services will be offered to companies on a charged base. The database will provide safe storage of specialized information.

SOCAR will offer (on a charged basis) foreign companies (at their request) the existing data on various sites where a company would like to work. First, the data will be presented to the companies to see, if the same company would be interested in acquiring these data, they will be granted a foreign company on a charged basis. The company needs to view data to examine the sites where it would like to work. Moreover, the buyer company may interpret independently this data.

Access to the database will be limited. Access to data of foreign companies wishing to store their information in the SOCAR's database, will only be submitted to the company owner, located in the database information.

Azerbaijan has 57 oil and gas fields, including 18 offshore wells.
