Active work underway on construction of Pskem HPP in Uzbekistan

Active work is underway on the construction of the Pskem hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in the Bostanlyk district of the Tashkent region, as well as the excavation of an abandoned HPP tunnel with an installed capacity of 400 MW, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan told Trend.

According to the ministry, the project for the construction of the HPP will provide an opportunity to generate 946.1 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, as well as provide additional 190 jobs.

It is reported that the commissioning of the hydroelectric power station with a total cost of $799.6 million is scheduled for 2026.

“After the completion of construction, the Pskems HPP will be the second powerful hydraulic structure in Uzbekistan after the Charvak HPP,” the ministry said.

Also, the ministry noted that the initiator of the construction of the HPP is Uzbekhydroenergo JSC and the customer is the 4th Construction Directorate LLC, formed on September 25, 2017, in accordance with the order of the joint-stock company.

According to the information, to date, the following stages of the construction of the Pskem HPP have been completed:

2018-2019 - construction of infrastructure facilities;

January 2021 - construction of tunnel No. 1 with a length of 1,288 meters;

2019-2021 - construction of a 100-meter power tract, which will provide water supply to units No. 1 and No. 2, is currently underway (the length of this power tract will reach 285 meters in 4Q2021).

According to the ministry, it is planned to determine the main contractor for the construction of the main facilities in December 2021.
