Most of the oil transported via the main oil pipelines of Azerbaijan accounted for the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline from January through August 2021, Trend reports referring to the State Statistical Committee's report.
According to the report, in the specified period over 17.4 million tons of oil (74.7 percent of all oil transported through main oil pipelines of the country) were transported via the BTC pipeline.
“In the first 8 months of this year, over 23.3 million tons of oil were transported through the oil pipelines of Azerbaijan, which is 2.56 percent less compared to the same period of last year. In the same period of last year, a total of 23.9 million tons of oil were transported,” said the report.
Meanwhile, more than 2.21 million tons of transit (Turkmen) oil was pumped through the BTC, which is a decrease of 19.9 percent or 551,200 tons on annual basis.
The total length of the BTC pipeline is 1,768 kilometers, of which 443 kilometers pass through the territory of Azerbaijan, 249 kilometers - Georgia, 1,076 kilometers - Turkey. Construction of the pipeline was launched in April 2003 and was filled with oil on May 18, 2005.
