Kazakhstan, Russia sign MoU on project for ‘green’ hydrogen, ammonia production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 1

Trend:

Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas JSC National Company and Russia’s Linde Gas Rus technology company signed a Memorandum of Understanding on a project for the production of ‘green’ hydrogen and ammonia, Trend reports citing Kazakh media.

According to the information, the parties agreed on cooperation and joint development of projects in the field of clean energy in Kazakhstan.

The first stage of cooperation will explore the possibility of producing hydrogen and ammonia using natural gas as feedstock (blue hydrogen and blue ammonia) and/or electrolysis of water (green or blue hydrogen and green or blue ammonia).

"KazMunayGas has a systematic and balanced approach to decarbonization projects within the framework of the adopted Low-Carbon Development Program. Cooperation with the world's leading companies is one of the priorities in the study of promising projects in this direction," the chairman of the board of KazMunayGas Alik Aidarbayev said.

“I am glad that our company has the opportunity to contribute to the decarbonization process in Kazakhstan, in particular, together with KazMunayGas, which, among other companies, has taken a leading role in measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I am looking forward to the opportunity to translate the great experience of our company in this area into real projects,” Vice-president for Business development in Russia and CIS JSC “Linde Gas Rus” Thomas Hilker noted.
