Azerbaijan announces figures on agricultural subsidies

Some 419.6 million manat ($246.8 million) were allocated from the state budget in 2019 to subsidize agricultural sector and to other measures for ensuring Azerbaijan’s food security, Trend reports referring to a report on the activity of the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers in 2019 submitted to the country’s parliament.

In the reporting year, 723 entrepreneurs working in the agricultural sector in 58 districts of the country were issued soft loans in the amount of 21.2 million manat ($12.4 million). Work on creating agricultural parks and modern large-scale farming entities, which are important in the development of the agricultural sector, continued in 2019.

According to the relevant instructions of the head of state, work is carried out in 33 districts of the country to create 51 agricultural park and large-scale farming entities with a total value of 2.4 billion manat ($1.4 billion) in the area of 262,000 hectares.

In this regard, 535 million manat ($314.7 million) was allocated via the government support measures for agricultural parks and large farming entities, including 339 million manat ($199.4 million) for the necessary infrastructure work.

Moreover, it’s envisioned to allocate 196 million manat ($115.2 million) of soft loans for the creation of 27 agricultural parks and large farms with a total value of 780 million manat ($458.8 million).

In addition, investment incentive documents for 45 projects for creating 23 agricultural parks and 45 large farming entities with a total value of 759 million manat ($446.4 million) were issued.

In 2019, some 16 agricultural parks and large farming entities began to function, so their total number was 33 objects. In 18 agricultural parks and large farming entities, design and construction works are underway.
