Azerbaijani Communications Minister Publicizes 2020 Forecasts of Incomes from Telecommunications
Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Babayeva / The realization of the project on establishment of a regional innovation zone in Azerbaijan will enable the incomes derived from communications to rise to $4mln by 2012, Ali Abbasov, the Azerbaijani Minister for Communications and Information Technologies, said in an interview for Contact magazine.
From 2018 to 2020 this figure might reach the level of oil revenues and comprise $10bln-12bln.
In 2006, communications enterprises rendered services in the amount of AZN 571.8mln, or 24% more than compared to 2005.
The project provides for the creation of technology parks for development of small- and medium-sized innovation entrepreneurships, establishment of regional basis on production and export of electronic equipment and software, turning the country into a transit data centre, training human resources for the information society, as well as the application of IT in other spheres.
A set of proposals developed by the consulting company Booz Allen Hamilton with the participation of local and international experts has been submitted to the Government.
