Delta Telecom obtained a license to offer as wireless internet using WIMAX technologies, Delta Telecom Technical Director Rahid Alekperli told Trend today.
The 2.6 GHz frequency will be used to set up wireless access to WiMAx.
The company completed activities on the project's first phase, which included installing 110 based stations in Baku and Absheron.
Delta Telecom's scratch cards and modems will be put on the market by the end of the year.
WiMAX's network capacity will be 4.4 Gb per second. The company has already commissioned the second phase of the project, which stipulates enhancing the WiMAX network on a regional level. The company's specialists are searching for locations in Guba, Ganja and Astara to install the base station. Under the second phase, 140 base stations will be installed.
The WiMAX Delta Telecom network will be based on standard 802.16e, also known as Mobile WiMAX, and intended for mobile devices moving at speeds up to 120 km/h. The network is built on the base of Alcatel-Lucent equipment with which Delta Telecom signed an agreement in September 2008.
In the future, the WiMAX network will be integrated with LTE technology, which is a major step toward further enhancing the fastest network in Azerbaijan. LTE will bring mobile broadband access to a qualitatively new level due to ultra-high data rates, which are necessary in the case of services such as Internet TV, mobile video blogging and online video games.
