Middle Corridor witnesses total of 87 block trains since year start

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 8. A total of 87 block trains have been dispatched along the Middle Corridor since the beginning of this year, Fariz Aliyev, Department Head of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan said during a conference on the promotion of logistics and trade in Azerbaijan, the SCO demonstration area, Trend reports.

He mentioned that the delivery time for block trains to their final destination ranged from 9 to 12 days.

"In addition, authorization forms for international road transportation have been introduced between the two countries, and a pilot project in this regard was successfully implemented. Last week alone, 16 vehicles were transported under this project. Furthermore, air transportation services between Azerbaijan and China are operational, with plans underway to enhance cooperation in this area," he added.

The Middle Corridor has been operating since 2014, but in the past two years, it has been functioning in an enhanced mode due to growing demand.

In the year 2023, a whopping 2.7 million tons of cargo sailed through this route, showing a remarkable 86 percent surge compared to the previous year. In 2024, the cargo flow may hit the jackpot and reach for the stars, exceeding a whopping 4 million tons.
