The salaries of foreign workers will be checked in Kazakhstan, Minister of Labour and Social Security Serik Abdenov said at a press briefing today.

"As for the disproportion in salaries, companies are being checked to reveal the disproportion of labor," he said. "Last year's experience shows that there are similar facts on the market. Control operations have been launched. We will summarize the results of all inspections by late March. If necessary, changes will be made to legislation."

He added that today, more than 2,000 enterprises in Kazakhstan attract foreign workers. There were about 22,000 foreign workers in Kazakhstan last year.

"According to statistics, we attracted around 60,000 specialists in 2007-2008," he said. "Additional issues on priority and timely response to problems with staff in industrial projects arise. According to the government's decision, we foresee the opportunity of determining special conditions for companies implementing projects of the State Program on Forced Industrial-Innovative Development. We have changed the rules in terms of protecting the domestic labor market."

Earlier, chairman of the Committee on the Control and Social Protection of the Kazakh Ministry of Labour and Social Protection Serikkali Bisakaev reported that Kazakhstan will tighten control over the differences in local and foreign workers' salaries.
