BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 19. Kazakhstan plans to launch the construction of a new gas processing plant in the city of Zhanaozen in 2023, Alikhan Smailov, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan said at a meeting on the socio-economic development of the country chaired by the Head of State, Trend reports, citing Kazakh President's press service.
According to the PM, the total capacity of the plant is expected to reach 900 million cubic meters
"Currently, measures are being taken to increase the resource base of hydrocarbon raw materials and production capacities for its further processing. To cover fuel shortage in the domestic market, it is planned to expand the capacity of the Shymkent refinery from 6 to 12 million tons per year. To load it with raw materials, it is planned to implement projects to expand the Atyrau – Kenkiyak and Kenkiyak – Kumkol oil pipelines," Smailov said.
He also added that, in general, Kazakhstan has adopted several legislative norms in the gas sector, which will allow obtaining up to 4 billion cubic meters of commercial gas per year.
"Moreover, Kazakhstan is carrying out a project for the production of butadiene and its derivatives with a capacity of 319,000 tons per year. At the same time, the design of a complex for the production of polyethylene with a capacity of 1.2 million tons per year is currently underway. The total investment volume of these projects is expected to total $8.7 billion," the PM added.
