( RIA Novosti ) - Police in south Kyrgyzstan have seized a total of 43 kilograms ( 95 pounds) of heroin, the largest seizure of the drug in the country's history, the drug control agency said on Tuesday.
A 53-year-old drug courier was caught red-handed on Sunday with two packages filled with heroin, worth around $1.2 million on the black market, the spokesman said.
Police said that the suspect was a member of a criminal gang which delivers drugs from Tajikistan to Kazakhstan and Russia.
Tajikistan is a major transit country for drugs from Afghanistan, the world's largest heroin producer, to former Soviet republics including Russia, and some Western countries.
