DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 9. The city of Guliston in the Sughd region of Tajikistan has attracted 27,117 tourists from January through September 2023, Trend reports.
During these nine months in 2023, Guliston was visited by 2,593 foreign guests and 25,524 Tajik citizens. As a result of providing tourist services during this period, the city's budget received 32.7 million somoni ($2.9 million).
Earlier, Chairman of Sughd, Rajabbay Ahmadzoda, said that there is intention to develop the tourism industry in the region. He mentioned that hundreds of thousands of foreign tourists visit Tajikistan annually, and there is an opportunity to strengthen ties and implement important initiatives to attract tourists.
Near the city, there is the so-called 'Tajik Sea' (Kayrakkum Reservoir, an artificial lake), and along its shores, several health resorts and sanatoriums are located. These establishments serve as an additional source of revenue for the city and are popular among both the local population and tourists visiting Tajikistan.
According to the Tajikistan Tourism Development Committee, the number of foreigners entering Tajikistan reached 628,000 people from January through August 2023. Over the past five years, more than 3.9 million people have visited Tajikistan, including 1 million tourists in 2022.
Since January 1, 2022, the initiative of unilateral visa-free entry for citizens of 52 foreign countries has been implemented in Tajikistan. Additionally, simplified visa procedures are offered to citizens of 126 countries to encourage tourism.
