The first phase of the census of the population living in remote, inaccessible areas and areas of transhumance started in Turkmenistan. It will last until September 24, 2012, Turkmen Dovlet Haberleri said today.
The main stage will be held from December 15-26, 2012 within the UN initiatives on census in UN member-states from 2005 to 2014.
"This decision was caused by peculiar climatic conditions in the settlements distant from the regional centers, the routes of mountain and desert areas," the information said. "Therefore, specific dates for the census were determined for these settleemnts - September."
The census will be conducted in 365 settlements and transhumance areas, located in 28 areas of all provinces in the country.
Besides employees of statistics bodies, teachers, medical staff, representatives of local and regional administration have been involved.
The Geographic Information System will be used.
