Twelve-year secondary education will be introduced in Turkmenistan beginning in the 2013/2014 school year, the Turkmen Education Ministry said today.

It is expected that the new school year in secondary schools across the country will be trained
Around 967,500 pupils will study at secondary schools. Around 193,200 pupils will study in the first class.

"All first-graders will get netbooks with the special training and educational programs," a statement said.

The curricula was worked out and approved on the basis of national and international experience in Turkmenistan in accordance with the concept of transiting the secondary schools to the twelve-year period of study.

The school curriculum includes new subjects - fundamentals of the economy, ecology, cultural heritage of Turkmenistan, world culture, the culture of conduct (ethics), information and communication, innovative technologies, modeling and graphics.

There are 1,760 secondary schools, 37 vocational schools, 64 primary and 23 professional higher education institutes in Turkmenistan.
