Ashgabat is hosting the 47th meeting of authorized representatives of the Caspian littoral states to discuss a draft agreement on cooperation in the field of transportation, the Turkmen government said in a message Nov. 17.

The event is attended by the heads and leading specialists of the ministries and agencies of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan.

This document envisages the establishment of the Caspian regional transportation and logistics center.

“The Caspian region is now one of the most important geopolitical, economic, energy, transportation and communication centers in the Eurasia,” said the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state news service in its report.

“Maximum use of potential of the Caspian Sea as a major communications hub of continental importance is a strategic direction, which opens the prospects of significant expansion of trade and economic relations both between the Caspian littoral states and in terms of their access to world markets,” the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.
