A round table dedicated to the activity of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) was held in the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a message.
According to the message, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Asia, Head of the UNRCCA Natalia Gherman spoke about the plans of the Center for 2018.
The forthcoming events will be aimed at further promoting preventive diplomacy in the region in all areas, combating terrorism, drug trafficking and promoting regional integration of Afghanistan.
The Center's activity will also affect the issues of the preservation of the environment and water resources. In this regard, the need for rational use of natural and transboundary water resources was stressed.
Gherman added that the Center will continue to actively cooperate with Turkmenistan in resolving the problems of the Aral Sea.
In late November 2017, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the role of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA). Fifty-seven countries acted as co-authors of the resolution. The headquarters of the UNRCCA is located in Ashgabat.
