Uzbek President receives U.S. Congress delegation

On Tuesday Uzbek President Islam Karimov received a delegation of the U.S. Congress, which arrived in Tashkent, Uzbekistan National News Agency (UzA) reported.

The delegation of the U.S. legislators, which included Chairman of the U.S. House Subcommittee on Europe and Eurasia, Dana Rohrabacher, Congressmen Paul Cook, Ted Poe and Brian Higgins, visited the country within the regular contacts between parliamentarians of the two countries, UzA reported.

During the meeting, President Karimov underscored that, with joint efforts, the two countries have elaborated a promising bilateral agenda, covering the political, trade and economic and other spheres and aimed at addressing common challenges given national interests.

The sides exchanged views on priority areas of cooperation, implementation of mutually beneficial investment projects involving advanced technology and resources, and stressed the mutual interest in further enhancing of the long-term Uzbek-US relations both on the intergovernmental level, and between business circles.

The delegation members stressed that the U.S. appreciates Uzbekistan's support in the socio-economic revival of Afghanistan, establishing peace and stability in the country, and stressed that the deepening of the partnership meets interests of the two countries and peoples.

As it was previously reported, yesterday the U.S. Congressmen met with the leadership of the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan, and also held a meeting in the lower house of the parliament of Uzbekistan.
