Such global technology giants as Amazon, IBM, Cisco, Microsoft Corporation, Alibaba Group and Google are showing interest in the Uzbek market, which can provide them with a number of unique opportunities, Minister for Information Technology and Communications Development of Uzbekistan Azim Akhmedkhadjaev said, Uzbek media reported.

He said that these companies pay attention to Uzbekistan, because throughout the CIS space they don’t have data processing centers, which would help reduce the cost of doing business.

“The Uzbek market will provide them with opportunity to create capacities so that they can more promptly carry out their operations with neighboring countries,” he said. “This greatly influences the decision of the end user, whether he or she will use the services of these companies or not.”

For example, a request that a person sends from Riga to a remote server of Alibaba in Hong Kong when making purchase takes a certain amount of time, Akhmedkhadjaev noted, adding that before the server replies, the consumer can cancel the purchase.

“We need to ensure that Uzbekistan is the center of IT technologies in the region, it can become a sort of information hub,” he said. “To this end, it is necessary that as many experts as possible come to Uzbekistan from abroad to exchange information, that is, we must create a convenient platform for everyone.”

Earlier, representatives of Amazon Web Services (a subsidiary of Amazon) discussed with representatives of the Uzbek government the possibility of building data centers using solar panels in Uzbekistan.

In addition, Cisco company offered Uzbekistan cooperation in working out a strategy for the development of “smart” and safe cities, while Google Global Cache offered Uzbekistan to cooperate in improving the quality of Google services for local users.

As part of projects of “smart” and safe cities, Uzbekistan also plans to closely cooperate with Huawei, a Chinese multinational networking, telecommunications equipment, and services company.
