BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. Uzbekistan became the world leader in the sale of gold in February 2022, Trend reports via the World Gold Council.
According to the council, the country has sold 22 tons of gold during the month, being followed by Qatar (6 tons) and Kazakhstan (5 tons).
Turkey (25 tons), India (2.6 tons), and Ireland (1 ton) became the leaders in terms of purchasing gold.
According to the council, the gold reserves of world central banks decreased by 6 tons over the month.
Even after the sale in February, the gold reserves of Uzbekistan still account for 59 percent of total reserves.
Uzbekistan ranks among the top 10 countries in the world for gold mining. From 2010 to 2020 the country exported 687 tons of gold.
