TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 23. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will invest $3.5 million to strengthen the economy of Uzbekistan in such target sectors as tourism, information and communication technologies and the green economy, Trend reports.
The news followed a meeting between President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and a US delegation headed by Administrator of USAID Samantha Power in Tashkent on October 23, 2023.
The investment program is aimed at creating new jobs, improving economic inclusion, developing export markets for small and medium-sized enterprises and attracting capital.
USAID will work to eliminate organizational, legal and economic barriers that make it difficult for women, youth and people with disabilities to open and run a personal business. In addition, USAID will help Uzbek businesses to introduce US technologies that can improve e-commerce and trade.
Samantha Power is currently on a working visit to Uzbekistan to hold the first Ministerial meeting on regional cooperation in the C5+1 format.
Since 2015, the C5+1 format has been the US government's primary diplomatic platform for engagement with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
Meanwhile, USAID has been implementing a number of projects in Uzbekistan, including projects in the field of healthcare, education, green energy, and agribusiness.
