TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, March 18. Uzbekistan plans to increase agricultural exports to $3.5 billion this year, Trend reports.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Agency for Plant Quarantine and Protection, where he became familiar with the planned work in this sphere.

The necessary to expand the manufacture of export-oriented products and raise the awareness of farmers and dekhkans (small-scale family farms) for this purpose was stated during the visit.

Therefore, it was agreed upon that establishing a permanent forum for communication with exporters is essential. The ambassadors must acquaint exporters with the dynamics of demand and pricing in overseas markets, while the governors must acquaint them with the items farmed in the region.

Fruit and vegetable packaging should also have a contemporary appearance and adhere to international standards. Then there will be a strong national brand, added value, and quality.

It was underlined how crucial it is to work methodically to keep low-quality and expired goods out of export shipments.

Mutual uniformity and high standards must be maintained throughout the entire process, from training to planting, fertilizing, harvesting, and sorting.

The Cabinet of Ministers has been instructed to develop a three-year program to improve this system and the systematic organization of exports. The importance of expanding international cooperation to orient exports to relatively high-value markets was emphasized.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan's agricultural exports amounted to almost $2 billion in 2023. However, the export potential is much higher.
