Work is more than 80 per cent complete on Phases 15 and 16 of Iran's Persian Gulf joint South Pars gas and oil field, Shana news agency reports.
When connected to the national pipeline network, phases 15 and 16 are targeted to produce 50 million cubic metres of refined natural gas a day. They are expected to start operating in the first six months of next year (Iran's solar year ends on March 20).
Work continues on building sea platforms, pipelines and drilling wells to make the South Pars' Phases 15 and 16 operational.
Iran has all of the materials it needs for drilling the two phases and wells are a little more than 78 per cent complete.
Iran and Qatar share the 9700 square kilometres of South Pars gas and oil field. Qatar however, is far ahead of Iran in exploiting the field's resources. It has intensified developing South Pars while Iran suffers international sanctions and technical and financial obstacles.
