Iran Planning and Budget Organization has approved the operation of Rasht-Astara railway project, Trend reports via ILNA.

The organization has announced and issued its agreement to The Islamic Republic of Iran Railways.

"After the agreement is reviewed, the project's location is set, the research results would be sent to the Minister of Roads and Rural Development," said Deputy Head of Iran Railways Maziar Yazdani.

"Rasht-Astara railway project is currently at the study and review stage, and it is planned to start operation in the early months of the next Iranian year (March 21, 2019)," he added.

Yazdani said the Gilan province officials have suggested to install the track at the mountain hill route, and this preposition is being reviewed.

He added that the Rasht-Astara railway is 160 kilometers long and by installing the railway track, some 20 kilometers of distance between the two cities would be reduced.

"Some domestic companies expressed readiness to fully handle the project," Yazdani said. "The biggest issue is the construction method and providing resources."
