Trend:

Acting director of Iran's Food and Drug Administration has announced that there is no crisis in providing medicines and medical equipment in the country.

"There are sufficient supplies of rare medicines, while the newly established medicine station at the Iranian Food and Drug Administration aims to prevent any crisis over lack of medicine," said Mohammad Reza Shanesaz, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"The medicine station has been formed to provide medicines and medical equipment and prevent any problem in this sphere. The role of pharmacists in country's current medicine situation is very important; hopefully, there will be no concerns over the issues related to the sanctions," he added.

In his words, the official foreign currency rate of 42,000 rial per dollar should be set for domestic production of medicines. "in total, 97 percent of the medicines in the country worth $700 million are produced domestically, while the remaining three percent of medicines worth $1.3 billion are imported," he noted.

Iran's Food and Drug Administration has announced that the country would cut medicine imports by 100 items in the second half of current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019) due to the increase in domestic production.

Following the re-imposed US sanctions against Iran, the country faced problems in importing medicines. Although the medical sector is not sanctioned, financial transactions are difficult, which has effected the domestic market.
