An Iranian official says the country has stored more than 2.1 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas in the Shourijeh and Serajeh storage facilities during the fiscal year that began March 21.

Iran increased its storage of gas by 600 million cubic meters year-to year, said Manouchehr Taheri of the National Iranian Gas Company, as quoted by Shana on Nov. 7.

The country has two gas storage facilities, Shourijeh and Serajeh. Iran stores its surplus gas at these facilities in the summer, and distributes the stored gas in the winter, when the country's housing sector's gas consumption triples.

Gas consumption in Iran's housing sector doubled during the last week to 320 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d), while the demand for gas is expected to reach 500 mcm/d in January, said Manouchehr Taheri.

Without mentioning any figure, Taheri said that Iran's gas production increased by 6 billion cubic meters (bcm) during the first 226 days of the current fiscal year.

Iran's gas production reached 202 bcm of gas, while consumption stood at 190 bcm during the last fiscal year.
