Iran’s strategic gasoline reserves have risen so that there is no problem for the vacation heat of September, according to National Oil Product Distribution Company CEO Nasser Sajadi.
He said the rise is responsible for extraordinary high volume of gasoline imports which had caused concerns in the past months, Mehr news agency reported August 16.
Since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20), Iran’s gasoline consumption stood at about 73.9 million liters per day, a rise of 3.2 percent compared to one year earlier’s 71.6 million liters per day.
Over the past year the import of gasoline to Iran has jumped by 100 percent while the country’s gasoline consumption has increased by two percent in the meantime, Mehr reported April 20.
During last Iranian fiscal year Iran imported nine million liters of gasoline per day, whereas the number had been 4.5 million a year earlier, it further said.
According to the report, over the past one year Iran imported 3.2 billion liters of gasoline. In March, Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh had said newly-built refineries will make Iran independent of gasoline import this year.
