Iran exports fruits for $2.5B in 7 months

In the first seven months (from March 21 to Sept. 22, 2019) of the current Iranian year, Iran's exports of fruits reached $2.5 billion in monetary terms, Iranian Deputy Agriculture Minister Mohammad Ali Tahmasebi said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

According to the deputy minister, Iran has 2.8 million hectares of orchards in total.

During the reported seven-month period, Iran's total agricultural exports reached $5.2 billion in monetary terms, Tahmasebi said.

Iran's main agricultural exports are raisins, kiwi fruits, saffron, apples, pistachio, dates and various citruses, the deputy minister noted.

This year, about four million tons of apples have been harvested and 1.8 million tons of them will be exported, Tahmasebi said.

According to the deputy minister, some of the agricultural goods, mainly saffron and pistachio, will be exported mostly in the second half of the current year.

Currently, Iran's annual output of grains and fruits amount to 122 million tons, Tahmasebi said.
