Official: Iran, Georgia need to lift obstacles in banking relations

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 20

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Iran and Georgia need to lift obstacles in the way of banking relations and implement a goods barter to boost trade, Head of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Gholam-Hossein Shafeie said at the meeting with Head of Parliamentary Georgia-Iran Friendship Group Shalva Kiknavelidze in Tehran, Trend reports citing IRIB.

Shafeie noted that there is great potential for enhancing economic and trade relations between the two countries.

Touching upon the transit cooperation issues, Shafeie added that the potential of cooperation with Azerbaijan will be further enhanced after the construction of Iran's Rasht-Astara railway.

The Head of Parliamentary Georgia-Iran Friendship Group Shalva Kiknavelidze noted that Georgia-Iran cooperation covers parliamentary and government relations, as well as private sector. Next month, Iran and Georgia will hold discussions on the development of cooperation, he said.

The Georgian official stressed that sanctions imposed on Iran cause problems in enhancing the country's international relations.

Kiknavelidze expressed hope that these problems will be eliminated and the outcome will be in Iran's favor.

The US imposed the sanctions against Iran in November 2018 and expanded them in several stages.
