BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 4. The volume of cargo loading and unloading at Iran's owned ports increased by 10 percent in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023), the report of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization said, Trend reports.
The research states that Iranian ports processed and discharged
over 237 million tons of goods last year.
Based on the data, the volume of loaded cargo was around 156
million tons, while the volume of unloaded freight was 80.6 million
tons, and more than 111 million tons of crude oil and petroleum
products were loaded and discharged at Iranian ports last year.
More than 125 million tons of non-oil items were handled and
unloaded within the specified time period.
According to the study, the ports processed and unloaded 2.68
million TEU of containers. This is a 5% increase over the previous
year.
To note, the current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of ports by 500 million tons.
