Iran sees solar increase power productions

TEHRAN, Iran, July 14

Trend:

Iran's solar energy production has increased 14 percent since the start of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2021), said the Managing Director of Thermal Power Plant Holding Company.

The following increase is the result of power plants overhauls, currently, major units are on the production circuit, said Mohsen Tarz Talab, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"However intense heat in the summer could lead to damage to power plants while some units are older than 50 years and could go out of the circuit," he said.

Iran's thermal, atomic and renewable plants have 51,000-megawatt power generation capacity.

"Industries that requested for power production should generate 10 percent of their electricity via solar energy. It is expected that thermal power plants would be established with new technologies with less water consumption by industries," Talab noted.

"Purchase guarantee of electricity from producers and setting foreign currency tariff would attract foreign investor in power plant sector," he added.
