Some 90 percent of elevators in Iran are now non-standard, as one-year licenses have expired, IRNA reported citing the head oh the Iranian Syndicate of Elevators and Escalators Industries Abbas Abrishami.

Standardization of elevators in Iran should be compulsory and the compulsory standardization licenses must be issued for a 1-2 year period, Abrishami said.

The fact that Iran's National Standardization Authority considers 90 percent of the nation's elevators non-standard is that the relevant organizations and individuals have not yet renewed the compulsory standardization licenses, he added.

Presently, there are more than 700,000 elevators in Iran and a minimum of 450,000 have been checked at least once, Abrishami said stressing that their licenses are issued for one year and should be re-issued.
