Cuba has reported its first confirmed case of the H1N1 flu that has sickened thousands of people around the world, Reuters quoted the Public Health Ministry as saying on Monday.

The ministry said the infected person was a student from Mexico who had returned to Cuba after vacation.

The World Health Organization reports the swine flu cases have been confirmed in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, China, Columbia, Denmark, Salvador, France, Germany, Guatemala, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Panama, Poland, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Scientists stated on numerous occasions earlier that the epidemic is less likely to turn into "Spaniard" which claimed over 20 million lives in 1918-1920 as now medics and epidemiologists are well-aware of the pathogen and ways of spread of the disease, RIA Novosti reported.
