The Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that presidential envoy Mikhail Margelov will participate in an upcoming meeting in Paris concerning the Libyan situation, Xinhua reported.

The arrangement was made after the Russian side received an invitation to the international conference, according to a ministry statement.

Moscow originally refused to attend the meeting, saying that it was not invited. It also demanded that the Libyan crisis be settled by the U.N. Security Council rather than what it called "quasi-structures."

The gathering of "friends of Libya" is scheduled to take place Thursday in the French capital, where senior officials from dozens of countries and international organizations will discuss the future of the war-ravaged North African country.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy and British Prime Minister David Cameron will jointly host the event, and leaders of the Libyan National Transitional Council will also be present.
