At least 18 people were killed and dozens injured when a bus dropped into a river in south-eastern Bangladesh, police said Monday, dpa reported.
The bus with at least 50 passengers aboard skidded off the road and plunged into the Matamuhuri River near Chakaria, 350 kilometres south-east of the capital Dhaka, officer Ranjit Kumar Barua said.
Local residents and police retrieved 16 bodies from the river, he said.
Twenty-six people were sent to hospital with injuries, of whom two had died, Barua said, adding police had called off the rescue operation.
