Turkey has entered talks with French firms about the planned construction of a nuclear power plant on the Black Sea, Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said Friday, DPA reports.

Several French companies have presented proposals to Ankara on the project, the Anadolu agency cited Yildiz as saying.

They became the third potential foreign partners in the envisioned project after talks with South Korea and Japan. The talks with the South Koreans however fell through.

Turkey is planning to build two nuclear power plants. Under Ankara's plans, the plant at Sinop on the Black Sea is to be completed by the year 2023.

The country's first nuclear power plant is to be built in Akkuyu in the southern part of the country. Russian companies are to erect the facility consisting of four reactors totalling 4,800 megawatts in a project costing about 15 billion euros (20 billion dollars).
